Evanston’s Economic Development Committee is scheduled to hold a workshop Wednesday evening aimed at developing goals for improving the city’s business climate. The meeting comes amid persistently high vacancy rates for office and retail space downtown, while vacancy rates elsewhere in the city are relatively low. As would be expected in a town that is home to a major university, Evanstonians tend to be highly educated. But there’s a wide dispersion of income levels — with nearly 10% of households having an income below $15,000, while nearly a quarter have incomes of $200,000 or more. (By comparison, in Wilmette nearly half the households have more than $200,000 in annual income.)
