A new agreement announced this week between Amazon's Project Kuiper low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network and Kazakhtelecom, the largest telecommunication company in Kazakhstan, aims to bring high-speed satellite internet to communities throughout Kazakhstan. Under the terms of the agreement, Kazakhtelecom will use Project Kuiper's LEO satellite network to extend connectivity to households and communities, businesses and schools throughout Kazakhstan. The system will connect residential households, as well as schools, businesses, and other organisations operating in places without reliable broadband connectivity. We reported in August that Chinese LEO satellite operator Shanghai SpaceSail Technologies had tested its satellite broadband network in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. In June meanwhile, we noted that SpaceX’s LEO satellite broadband operator Starlink is set to officially launch services in Kazakhstan later this year.
