The Central Bureau of Investigation has approached the Supreme Court of India against an order of the High Court wherein it said the CBI had acted in violation of the top court’s directions while carrying out a probe into "adulterated ghee" being used to prepare the Tirupati Laddu prasadam. In October last year, the Supreme Court had ordered the SIT appointed by the State Government to look into the Tirupati prasadam issue to be substituted. Court had also asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to assist the court on the aspect if the investigation into the Tirupati laddu controversy by the state-appointed SIT should continue or should it be done by an independent authority. A bunch of petitions were filed before the Supreme Court addressing the controversy that erupted after the ghee used in Tirupati prasadam was found to be adulterated.
