Ivan H. 'Mel' Melsheimer, passed away at home in Canyon Lake, Texas, at 6:42 p.m., March 13, 2025. He was born April 21,1937 in Elnora, Indiana, to Arnold and Bethel (Kail) Melsheimer. Mel joined the United States Navy directly out of Elnora High School. He became a flight engineer and retired at the rank of Master Chief after years of service to his country including tours in Vietnam. Mel traveled the world after his first retirement working for a military contractor. He later became a licensed realtor in California and a small business owner in Corpus Christi/Padre Island, Texas, operating the favorite beach vending, Mel's Texas Size Hot Dogs. He finally settled in the Texas Hill Country of Canyon Lake, where he owned and operated a heavy equipment and excavating business. Mel was a member of the Canyon Lake (Sattler), Texas VFW Post 8573. He enjoyed seeing the world, hunting and fishing, especially in Alaska, boating, searching for mushrooms in Daviess County, Indiana, and telling his grandchildren to "get with the program." He loved all his friends and family and was a proud American. Mel's survivors include his children, Jeannine (Fred) Resler, Iva (Dane) Ebler, Marianne Harner, all of Washington, Indiana; Lori (Sam) Glover, Crawfordsville, Indiana; Daniel Melsheimer, San Marcos, Texas; and Keely Helton, Whitesboro, Texas; sisters-in-law, Rita Melsheimer, Vincennes, Indiana and Joan Melsheimer, Tennyson, Indiana; brother-in-law, Gary LaMar, Jasper, Indiana; special friend/caregiver, Sherry Guhl, Canyon Lake, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna (Roth) Melsheimer; brothers Larry Melsheimer and Melvin Melsheimer; and sisters Linda Greene and Nina LaMar. He was the last of his sibling group. Mel has chosen cremation with no services.
