The buzz word was “unprecedented” and the mood was “extra.” President Trump’s State Visit to the UK was the ultimate example of Britain utilizing the soft power of the royal family with a President who has made his admiration for them very clear. As the curtain falls on Trump’s unprecedented second State Visit, the immediate takeaway is one of success. Without a royal family it would have been very different, if it had happened at all. Monarchy is an ancient institution, but there couldn’t be a better demonstration of its relevance to Britain on the world stage today than this State Visit. But when it comes to relations with this administration, there can be no doubt that the royal family has played a pivotal role.
