It is with much love and fond memories that our family says goodbye to our beloved Aunt Palmira Vincentine in her 102nd year. Zia passed very gently with family by her side in Guelph on Sunday, April 16, 2023.She was predeceased by her parents Fiorindo and Maria Visentin, her brother Peter (Ginn) and sisters Irma, Rena (Lucien)) and Rose (John) her niece Diane and nephews Peter and John. She is survived by her nieces Anne Marie, Patricia, Barbara, Frances, Maureen, Cheryl, Marcia, Nancy and Anne, Darlene, Gwen; and by her nephews Rod, Joe, Brian, Paul, Arthur, Larry, Carl and Tom; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.Palmira was born July 6, 1921 on Metcalfe Street and was delivered by the midwife Mrs. Valeriote because the doctor was busy watching the other great event that day, The Guelph Big Fire at Stewart Lumber yards.Palmira was raised in St. Patrick Ward where she was much beloved in the Italian community and was a good source of local lore for the many Histories written about the Ward. She was very involved in Sacred Heart Parish and was a lifetime member of The Legion of Mary and the CWL. Palmira spent most of her life working in the textile industry where she made many lifelong friends. Palmira will always be remembered for her friendly, fun loving and hospitable nature. She had a fantastic sense of humour and was famous for her wearing of fashionable hats. She often referred to herself as an "Unclaimed Treasure". You certainly were!Special thanks to Dr. Will Ruddock, Father Wieslaw, Peace of Mind Care especially Gina and Barb, Bayshore Nursing and Care Partners. A very special thanks to her wonderful neighbours and friends in "The Ward" especially Debbie and Paul, Dianne, Rita and Ignazio, Rita S., Louise and Margaret.Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St N., Guelph where the family and friends will be received on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Vigil for Palmira will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church 98 Alice St., Guelph on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment of ashes to take place in Marymount Cemetery, Guelph at a later date.As expressions of sympathy, donations to Sacred Heart Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
