Meip "Maria" Haayen passed at age 96 on the morning of April 17, 2023. Maria's wishes were to be cremated and for her "lieve hartjes" to honour her in the way they see fit. She was a loving wife to family physician Dr. Petrus "Peter" Haayen, and is survived by her children: Peter (Colleen) Haayen, Marieke (Errol) Guthrie, and her grandchildren: Hainsley (Joy) Guthrie, Simone Guthrie, Lyndsey Haayen, Lisa (Konrad) Haayen-Kellman and her great grandchildren. Maria was a woman who was passionate about human rights, and could see the beauty and magic in people and cultures across the world. She made a home that reflected her love of the arts and her love of her family.
