Flora Mary Dean, Sister Donata Dean IBVM was born in Guelph on April 24, 1923. She entered Religious life September 8, 1945. She received her Angel Wings July 29, 2023. Sister Donata died peacefully surrounded by her Loretta Sisters. She was in her 101st year of life and her 78th year as a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loretto Sisters). Predeceased by her parents George Dean and Catherine Chapman, her brothers Francis and William, her sisters Roseanne Dean and Elizabeth (Betty) Blackie. Sister Donata is survived by her youngest sister, Catherine Teresa Terry of Guelph, 16 nieces and nephews and 32 great-nieces and nephews. Sister served in a variety of ministries, primarily teaching and as an educational consultant in Toronto, Hamilton, Port Colborne, Brampton, and Stratford Ontario, as well as Vancouver B.C. and Estevan SK. One of her contributions to education was co-creating the "Mr.Mugs" reading series for primary grades. In 1986 Sister Donata moved back to Guelph and together with Sister Christine served in ministry at the "Drop in Centre" and "Yorkhaven" until 2015 when she retired at the age of 92. She loved to sing and delighted in sharing her gift. She was a talented painter and a voracious reader. She was always helping others. She said "we all need a purpose", and she lived this every day. Funeral service and burial have taken place.
