Mar 27, 1936 - Oct 12, 2023 It is with sadness that we announce that Else Veldman (née Bjelland) passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on October 12, 2023, at the age of 87. She will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Joanne, grandchildren Ryan, Monika, and Heather as well as friends and family in Canada, Norway, and England. Else's special zest for life and devoted loyalty to family and friends has left us with special memories to hold close. Born in Stavanger, Norway she moved to Toronto as a young nurse seeking adventure and embraced life in Ontario while making lifelong friends doing what she loved. After learning to play tennis as an adult, she enjoyed many seasons at Rockmosa and Acton Tennis Clubs and when her playing days were done, she dedicated herself to book clubs, card games, bicycling, and watching tennis matches. In her fifties, Else moved from Acton to Guelph where she began a second career at the Ontario Veterinary College. It was here where several colleagues became like family for the duration of her life. Else's Norwegian family always remained close, and they made many trips over the years crossing the Atlantic to share special celebrations and summer vacations. In her later years, she travelled with family and friends exploring Norway, Venezuela, Eastern Canada, and the USA. Her last years in Ottawa were filled with joy from bridge games, suntanning and happy hours at cottages, book clubs, and cheering on her grandchildren at school performances and sports matches.
