Dam, Douwe (Doug) passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 4th, 2024 at Guelph general hospital after a brief illness with lung cancer. Born March 22, 1934 to Jan (1977) and Aafke (Wiersma) Dam (1937) in Friesland , Holland. His father remarried and the family immigrated to Canada in the late 1940s. Doug is survived by his children Reina (Gerald), Gary (Stacey), and daughter in law Theresa: his grandchildren Jessica (Will), Cody (Haven),Erica, Ashley (Alex) and his beloved dog Bailey who has kept Doug going for the last 9 years. Doug also survived by his brother Dirk (Marg) Adamson in New Brunswick, his sister Rose (Darrell) Edge, Joyce (Be) Scholten, and many nieces, nephews, and cousin in Canada and Holland. Predeceased by his loving wife Gerritje (Gerda) Logtenberg (2015), his grandson Jeremy Dam (2005), his son John (2019), brother Nick (2019), sister Jessie (2019). In his younger years Doug loved to bowl, camp and fish but his biggest passion has always been his gardens. We would like to thank dads many neighbours especially Janis, Cort, and Sarah for always checking on Doug and helping out when/if needed. His last week was spent under the care of Dr Graham and the staff of 5 west, special thanks to Charity, Pam, and Janine for keeping Doug comfortable in his final days. Visitation will take place Tuesday June 11, from 11-1 at the Memory Gardens Funeral Home 2723 Victoria St. N. Breslau 519 904 0400. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Donations may be made to the kidney foundation or Guelph General Hospital.
