September 11, 1929 - November Huiskamp (nee DeGroot); Johanna (Hanny) Helena - A faithful servant of God, Johanna (Hanny) Helena Huiskamp, 95, of Paris, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Telfer Place Retirement Home in Paris Ontario. Hanny was preceded in death by her husband William Huiskamp and by her brother Ralph DeGroot of Peterborough, Ontario. Hanny is survived by her four children, Gerald (Jerry) Huiskamp and his wife Jane of Waterloo, Ontario; Adele Service of Paris, Ontario; William (Bill) Huiskamp of Perth, Ontario and Rolfe Huiskamp and his wife Lisa of Guelph, Ontario. Loved as "Oma", she is survived by nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Sue), Bradley (Samantha), Jaclyn (Matt), Jessica (Craig), Aaron (Akaysha), Lorna, James (Liz), Caitlin, and Logan (RJ); and loved as great-grandmother "Great-Oma" of Sebastian, Liam, Lily, Hudson, Olivia, Ben and Isla. Hanny was born September 11, 1929, in 's-Gravenhage, The Netherlands to Roelof and Aleida DeGroot, née Heiting. In Holland, she lived her early years in Den Hague and worked for a time with KLM. With her Dutch education, she could speak Dutch, French, German and English. Like many Dutch after the war, she immigrated to Canada in 1951 where she worked hard and built a secure life for her family. On October 11, 1952, she married William (Bill) Huiskamp in Toronto, Ontario. Hanny and Bill worked diligently in their newly adopted country. Bill and Hanny purchased their first home in Scarborough, Ontario in 1952. From Scarborough they moved to Clarkson, and then to a century farm in Campbellville, Ontario in 1966 where Bill and Hanny completed a major restoration of the farm. Hanny taught music and obtained her teaching certificate becoming an elementary school teacher. In 1973, Bill and Hanny moved the family once more to Aberfoyle where they enjoyed life in the country for many years. Hanny was an exemplary mother figure and human being. She was an accomplished piano player, loved music and singing. Hanny was creative both in the kitchen and with handcrafts. She baked many Dutch foods and desserts for her family. She was very involved with her local Christian Reformed Church in Guelph, Ontario. She had a heart for missions and service as evidenced in her work for Wycliffe in North Carolina and abroad. Hanny was featured in a CBC program celebrating the 50th year of the liberation of Holland. Hanny loved hosting family events and spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed reminiscing about life back in Holland. Hanny and Bill were blessed with 65 years of marriage together. A special note of appreciation to the management and staff (especially Mary PSW, nurse Jasmine and many others) of LTC, Telfer Place for their loving and sensitive care and support, and to Dr. Rashad of Telfer Place for his counsel. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home Ltd. A Private Family Service was held with interment following in the Crown Cemetery in Puslinch, Ontario.
