Aug 15, 1931 - Dec 13, 2024 Born August 15, 1931, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, County of Essex, we are sad to announce the passing of Jean Ann Rudd (née Glauser), who left this world peacefully surrounded by all three daughters on December 13, 2024, at her residence in Palm Desert, California at the age of 93 and previously deceased by mother Verna Opal Rassan (Glauser) (née Nelson), father Layton (Leo) Elwood Glauser, and brother Leonard Nelson Glauser. She was of German and English descent. She was baptized as an infant and again at age 21 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph, Ontario. Her third baptism was in 1987 at the Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, FL. Her childhood prized possession was a Bible presented to her in 1939; it was translated from the King James version to modern text and helped her understand the scriptures. Ice skating in winter and, as a teenager, roller skating in summer were her favourite childhood pastimes, as was reading. She would often stay awake reading books until 1 a.m. She cared for her younger siblings and household tasks when not in school. World War II (1939-1945) affected her childhood home life. Families were grouped in housing arrangements, and in her diary, she notes the stress of the living conditions at the time. Despite this, she developed a great sense of humor and could quickly see the humor of a situation throughout her life. After high school, Jean Ann joined the workforce. Within four years, she worked at The Bell Telephone Company as an operator technician for the main switchboard, becoming a supervisor and then an instructor for new hires. She became a senior supervisor soon after, and her career ended with marriage and raising a family. Years later, she returned to Algonquin College in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, for formal educational skills training. Jean Ann married Willard Ross Rudd in Guelph, Ontario, County of Wellington, on August 22, 1952, at Knox Presbyterian Church, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Mrs. Jean Ann Rudd was featured in the local Guelph newspaper for her evening wedding and full Grecian-style gown. While living in North Bay, Ontario, as a homemaker, mother, and wife, she was very active in the Community Home and School Association, helped with fundraising at the Community Center snack bar, and organized seasonal social activities for the adults involving skating and dancing, where the women cooked and served food. The events were always sold out and entertained the community during long, cold winter months. Taking her children swimming at a beach near the family home was a savored summer pastime. She played the piano frequently and sang tunes such as "Streets of Loredo." Her original staccato style on the piano keys added liveliness to her renditions of the songs we all enjoyed. To help the family, she worked part-time at night as a Sears telephone catalog salesperson and pitched in one Christmas selling Christmas trees delivered to an empty lot beside the home. She was an industrious woman who put her family's needs first. There wasn't much time for reading. She enjoyed gardening and raking leaves for bonfires. Years later, she kept orchids and enjoyed pot gardening. For a brief time, she lived in Nigeria, West Africa, where the family moved in 1969. She enjoyed working as a sales consultant at the Ottawa Art Gallery Store in Canada, where she worked with artists and clients. Later, following her move to Gulfport, Florida, Jean Ann excelled as a sales associate at Dillard's Department Store. She was consistently recognized and awarded for her impressive sales performance. She retired after 18 years of exceptional service. She was a member of Pasadena Church in South Gulfport, Florida, for 20 years and notes that she felt closer to God during these years. Jean Ann enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, and friends. She never missed a family occasion or opportunity to visit or vacation with her daughters. In 2007, Jean Ann moved to Palm Desert, California, to be closer to her daughters. There, she developed new culinary skills and continued reading books and magazines, such as Biblical Archeology Review, Smithsonian, and Sierra Club. She was also a member of the Audubon Society. Jean Ann remained active and engaged with swim classes, local day trips with community friends (to the Lavender Festival), and visits to Long Beach, New Mexico, and Colorado to visit her daughters and their families. She enjoyed knitting beautiful creations of scarves, hand warmers, and hats. As a Palm Desert Public Library volunteer, she was recognized for serving the community in April 2012. She took delight in observing and reporting on the many birds who would nest in the eaves of her patio in Palm Desert, California. Jean Ann is survived by three daughters, Fern Yvonne Rudd, Wanda Jane Rudd, and Joanne Helen Armstrong (Michael), as well as her three cherished grandchildren, Chelsea Catherine Spoerner, Devon Rudd Thompson, Nelson Patrick Armstrong, and her brother, Peter Charles Glauser, her sister, Joan Olive McCullough (Dennis), and numerous nieces and nephews, including Charlene Carol Niola and Joan Ann Anderson, all who held a special place in her heart. Jean Ann will be interred at Van Sickle Cemetery in Jerseyville, Ontario, Canada, in the spring of 2025, and a service will be held to honor her life. Jean Ann will be greatly missed by her daughters and the many nieces and nephews she dearly loved. Her presence in our lives left an indelible mark, and her memory will be forever cherished.
