After a wonderful lifetime of learning and loving, John Walter Brothers died on February 12, 2025. John died, as he lived, fearless, dignified and fulfilled. His wife Cathy, daughter Emilie, and son Joe were by his side as the sun rose in Kitchener-Waterloo.
John was born in Windsor, Ontario, on September 15, 1942. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter Brothers (1895-1959) and Marie Jeanne Brunet (1915-1993). His brothers and best friends are his twin, Gerald (Mary Anne) and Roy (Virginia). John was extremely proud of all the Brothers' nephews and nieces: Michael, Marc, Anne Marie, Ryan, Roger, Paul and Donna Jean.
In 1970 John married Catherine Mary (Lannan) at Canadian Martyrs' Church in Toronto. He became a cherished member of the Lannan family and enjoyed many good times with Cathy's parents, John and Loretta (O'Rourke) and Cathy's siblings, Frank (deceased), Theresa, Marg, and Michael. He loved all his Lannan nieces and nephews, Jennifer, John, Louise, Cathy, Colleen and Rosanne.
John believed he won the greatest lottery in life when he became Pépé to his grandchildren, Daisy and Freddie, who were born to daughter Emilie and his son-in-law, Matt Webb.
John loved following the adventures of members of his extended family and took great pleasure in their accomplishments. His "not so secret" special nephew is John Sylvester with whom he had a special bond.
While John had many unique professional and academic accomplishments, his true happiness came from pride in his family and helping so many others throughout his lifetime. John will be remembered as a humble, wise, compassionate and joyful man.
