Passed peacefully at Hospice Georgian Bay, on Friday, April 11, 2025. She was 78 years old and had fought valiantly against several illnesses for the last few years. Valerie dearly loved her husband, Harry, daughter, Shari Talbot (nee Cassie) and son-in-law, Joseph Talbot, daughter, Nancy Cassie, grandchildren, Trinity, Liam, Mindy, and great-grandson, Rayne. She also loved her stepchildren and chosen grandchildren and their families. Valerie is survived by her siblings, Marion Reive, Kim Hume (Brenda), Cheryl Hume, and Kenny Hume (Joey); and predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Harold Hume, brother, Barry Hume, brother-in-law, Ken Reive, and niece, Melissa Cook. Over the years, Valerie worked at many jobs, including retail and residential building management. She enjoyed working with people and hosting large family gatherings. There was always room for an extra person at the table, and enough leftovers to feed an army. Valerie attended Clearview Community Church, both in-person and online, and looked forward to weekly Book Club meetings with her small group. Her family wishes to sincerely thank each of the doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers at RVH in Barrie, CGMH in Collingwood, and Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood, who all went above and beyond with their kindness, compassion, and care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Hospice Georgian Triangle would be appreciated. Valerie's family will be holding a private service in her memory.
