Thank you for sharing your story, John. The more awareness we can bring to the diversity all around us the better we all become. It wasn't until I started working with adults at Perkins School for the Blind that I realized how much a white cane, and for some a guide dog, can mean for someone with a visual impairment. It is more than a tool, it is a lifeline to independence, confidence, safety, access to jobs, access to friends and family, and so many other things that those who are typically sighted take for granted. During the time of COVID-19, so much has changed for white cane users. For someone with a visual impairment, it can be hard to socially distance when it is difficult to gauge if you are 6 feet away from someone. Please be respectful of white cane users and guide dog users, and ensure you are giving them the space we all require during the pandemic. John, thanks for all you are doing on the committee and for Winthrop.
