I fully understand your point of view and have been upset at the demonstration in our little town as well! I have lived here for fourteen years and have watched our town become more diverse and charming over the years. I am Hispanic with a black boyfriend and have felt welcome and safe in this community. However my boyfriend has been followed by police a few times and has his concerns. He also feels the sting of the signage and questions peoples understanding of BLM and Defund the police. People it seem generalize these slogans and miss understand their meaning. No one knows how it feels to be a black man in this country or this town unless you are a black man or love one. Our whole culture has been built on hate and fear of retaliation over the brutal history of our country. When all that is asked is to feel freedom safety and respect in the country they built with their blood ,sweat and many tears. I am so sorry to know that you are leaving, you are exactly what this community needs to continue to grow. Bless you and your future! Please come back and visit! I hope one day you will move back with more people just like you to make Winthrop “Great again” for you and us! Sincerely, Melanie
