Dear readers, Please be informed that the Mekong River Commission has responded to the query from the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights about the alleged human rights violations in relation to the Don Sahong hydropower development. Our response was made in May 2016, after the cut-off date for the Council’s 32nd session report, and will be included in the next session report, according to the UN Human Rights office. Although our mandate focuses on sustainable development and management of Mekong’s water resources, the MRC understands the importance of human rights, and is currently exploring a possibility of capacity building of MRC personnel with the Human Rights office.
