We would love to have anyone that knew Bill to come. There were a lot of different versions of Bill over his lifetime. But I hope the most important take away from his life and legacy is one of impact. At every part of his life, he left a mark. He could motivate anyone, even if it was in spite. You could go back and thank him later. He loved getting under people's skin and picking on everyone. He understood what gravel in the gut and spit in the eye could do. He made strong people. He liked to see the fight and drive he could give someone, even if it was to prove him wrong. He knew how to pull it out of you. He was tough as nails, loyal to a fault, and rough around the edges, but he had heart and loved his family. These were all the things that made him who he was. He was resourceful, a skilled craftsman, stubborn as they come, and always had a joke for every situation. There are a lot of adults that can thank him for the help he gave when they were kids, even when he wasn't helping himself. In his darkest of days, he made an impact. Lessons of strength and not being scared to try and fail. Effort when the outlook seemed grim. He gave people chances and opportunities that they didn't have before - the good, bad, indifferent, the forgotten. You didn't always enjoy the process but came out better for it. Bill carried his regrets of those he felt like he let down along the way. I hope he knows how many people he helped to shape into strong people with thick skin and not worry about that weight. Those same people will pick it up for you and carry it on. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a friend, a mouth that would make a sailor blush, some would even say an asshole. But there will never be another one like him and the ones he left behind will miss him giving them a hard time, hearing the ill-timed jokes or eating overcooked grilled poppers while listening to music, where he tells you to eat around the burnt part. His absence will be felt for generations, and wild and woolly stories will be shared. Thank you for the lessons, courage and the strength.
