Hi Ron, please read below and let me know what you think about Pet Sounds I sent the below to a good college friend of mine but even though he loved the Beach Boys sound he really didn't know much about music so I thought I would send it to you. This will be a long read but if I remember correctly you are the perfect person to send this too. Recently I watched a documentary on the Wrecking Crew, a group of studio musicians. I highly recommend it if you’re not familiar with them. Anyway in the documentary they mentioned how many albums they were on and never received any credit. ( that is not the point of this email) they mentioned the Beach Boys (that’s where you come in). In the documentary they mentioned how they played a lot of the Beach Boys music. A few weeks later I watched a documentary on Pet Sounds. I realized I never really listened to that album. I reserved it at the library and gave it a listen. I never judge an album with just one go around. So far I listened to the complete album 5 times. I have heard and read that Pet Sounds was ground breaking and one of the most important albums of all time. The more I know about this album the more I disagree. The Beach Boys don’t play the instruments on this album. The lyrics were mostly written by a non Beach Boy. Most of the songs are written about girl love relationships. I don’t understand why this album is so critically acclaimed. There are two instrumental songs on the album-no Beach Boys. I have other concerns about this album but the purpose of this text is to get your point of view.
