There are signs that the economic stagnation that both the EU and the US are in is leading to a rise of frustrations. The young are tending to go to the left, as the demographics that voted for Bernie Sanders, Corbyn and so on are showing. However, movements like those are not universal and, among the older generation, and where they don't exist (specifically in the periphery, in the former USSR and in rural areas,), you see a turn to the right. I should say that U.S. foreign policy in the postwar years (squashing anti-fascist movements tied to Communist groups, as in Italy and Greece) is also partly responsible. The right has alot of fertile ground at present.
