For the many decades that high school football has been played in Halfway, the sport was exclusively an afternoon event. On the evening of Friday, Oct. 3, Pine Eagle fans will for the first time cheer for the Spartans as they run onto a grass field illuminated by bright lights. “It’s so exciting,” said Cammie deCastro, superintendent of the Pine Eagle School District. It’s just an amazing effort.”On that October night, the Spartans will play the Crane Mustangs to open the Old Oregon League schedule. Pine Eagle students played a flag football game against local residents, and there was a barbecue to honor the volunteers.
