I believe it. There was one guy in my 1960's teen-age friend group whom we thought of as fat. Recently I saw photos of us from that time and he just didn't look fat at all. He wasn't stick-thin like most of us were--we walked or rode bikes everywhere, but his size today would be considered average and maybe on the thinner side of average. That was a real eye-opener for me; it vividly drove the point home about how fat we've become.
