Billie Jean Sockwell Evans, 94, passed away February 14, 2025 in Tomball, TX. She was born March 2, 1930 to the late John Thomas Sockwell and Sally Ida Moss Sockwell.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Daryl Evans-known to his family and close friends as Bill, both her parents, her brothers, J.T. Sockwell and Fotch Sockwell; and her sisters, Winnie B. Hill and Indie Buckley.
Jean is survived by her two sons, David and wife Anita, Daryl and wife Becky; five grandchildren, Randi, Casey, Clint, Jessica, and Danny; nine great grandchildren, Bryce, Kale, Ryen, Corbin, Cooper, Colin, Leighton, Lexington, and Jack Dillon; and one great great-granddaughter, Tatum Joy.
After spending most of their adult lives in Houston, Bill and Jean moved back to Troup in 1978 where they both enjoyed spending many hours working their cattle and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. They spent 52 wonderful years together. After Bill passed, Jean moved to Tomball to be closer to her sons.
Jean retired from Nan Travis Hospital as a Medical Unit Secretary, after working many years at Memorial City Hospital in Houston, TX. She devoted her life's journey to her children and the love of her life ~Bill Evans. Her journey has been long and loving.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Griffin Cemetery in New Summerfield, TX. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Rather than customary condolences, donations may be made to Wegner's Granulomatosis Support Group, Inc. in memory of J.A. Evans.
