A graveside service for DeWald (Gus) Lake Jr. is scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2025, at Resthaven Memorial Park, in Jacksonville, with Pastor Daniel Smith officiating.
Gus was born November 28, 1955, in Dallas, to DeWald Lafayette Lake and Phyllis (Keller) Lake and passed away in Lufkin on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Gus dedicated many years of his life to working at Gardendale Rehab in Jacksonville and Colonial Manor in Tyler, where his kindness and commitment to helping others were so cherished.
Gus had a passion for sports that knew no bounds. From baseball to NASCAR, he enjoyed watching them all. Football held a special place in his heart, and he was once an ardent Cowboys fan.
Gus's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, DeWald Lafayette Lake and Phyllis (Keller) Lake, grandparents, Ottis Noland Lake, Cortus Lake, JL Keller and Letha Witherspoon Keller; and his aunt, Joan Treadwell.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, David Q. Lake, of Jacksonville; nephews, Dusty Lake and Paden Lake, of Jacksonville; great-niece, Addison Lake; uncle, David A. Lake and wife, Shirley, of Tyler; aunt, Nancy Cruse, of the Woodlands; and numerous cousins and many friends.
