Jo Ann Enlow Blaylock died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, March 3, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Texas, Bro. Nolan Richey and Pastor Eric Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Jarrett Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Jo Ann was born in Fulton, Itawamba County, Mississippi on February 20, 1938, to Otha Thornley Enlow and Princess (Gillentine) Enlow. She has been a resident of Jacksonville for the past 62 years, formerly living in Tupelo, Mississippi. Growing up in Northern Mississippi, Jo Ann and her sister were known to pick cotton as teenagers to help finance their clothes and school supplies. In 1957, she graduated from Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton and then attended Itawamba Junior College. In 1960, she graduated from the Sylacauga School of Nursing, Sylacauga, Alabama. As a Registered Nurse she worked for the North Mississippi Community Hospital in Tupelo and then at the Nan Travis Hospital (East Texas Medical Center/UT Health) in Jacksonville from 1962-1998. Just prior to her retirement in May 1998, she received her 38-year pin. In the 1990's, Jo Ann and husband, James, partnered with the mission team from Harrisburg Baptist Church of Tupelo to travel to Honduras for nine consecutive years from (2006-2014). There she used her nursing skills to minister to those living in remote villages. Jo Ann was pleased to maintain her nursing license after retirement for these special trips. Her work sharing the love of Jesus Christ enabled James to preach evangelistic messages at daily meetings. Jo Ann and James met in 1953 as high school classmates and were married May 7, 1962, in Tupelo. Three months later they moved to Jacksonville for James to attend the North American Theological Seminary (renamed later to the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary). In Jacksonville, they became parents to Jacquelyn Ann on September 27, 1964, and John Thomas on September 26, 1968. Jo Ann faithfully served as a pastor's wife from 1962-2018. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leon and wife Ann (Williams) Enlow, Rubel Enlow, Homer Enlow; and sister, Johnnie Mae (Enlow) and husband John Holle. She also treasured her niece, Kathy (Enlow) Cleveland and grandparents, Albert and Fannie Bell (Gillain) Enlow and John and Hassie (Moore) Gillentine. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Rev. James Blaylock of Jacksonville; her daughter, Jacquelyn Ann Bryan and husband Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Bryan of Lebanon, Ohio; and son, John Thomas Blaylock and wife Holly of Jacksonville. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren: David Bryan and wife Dalal of Puyallup, Washington; Laura Hall and husband Rev. Jerry David Hall of Swannanoa, North Carolina; Wende Woolard and husband Capt. Aaron Woolard of Fort Riley, Kansas; Harrison James Blaylock and Jackson Thomas Blaylock of Jacksonville. Jo Ann also lived to enjoy five great-grandchildren: Michael Bryan; Stanley, Bennett and Jocelyn Hall; Wesley Woolard; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the special caregivers of DeSandra Porter, Melissa Van Cleave, Laura Parker and all the staff of Hospice of East Texas for their dedicated service. Honoring Jo Ann as pallbearers are Harrison Blaylock, Jackson Blaylock, David Bryan, Carey Carnathan, Phillip Waddell, and Aaron Woolard.
