I thought this was a one-sided and rather confused article when it appeared in The Guardian yesterday, and now I am very surprised to see it turning up on here as well!  The galleries comments included here are from ones that have recently left Vyner Street to relocate in the West End, they are established galleries who can now afford to pay the high West End rents and tend to only show mid-career artists. They have made their money and can move on. However within the current recession and economic climate it is harder for anyone making art seriously to get representation and show their work unless you are already established. Some of the galleries currently on Vyner Street I believe offer a real solution, a real place for artists to get their art into a space and for it to be seen. This is the REAL change taking place on Vyner Street and this is how art moves forward and changes direction, it will always challenge and evolve. The galleries that have left Vyner Street have created a space, not a vacuum. There are numerous exciting new gallery spaces opening around Vyner Street that I see on each First Thursday; a new, vibrant and different type of art scene is evolving right now. Please stop regurgitating such wrongly reported information, and at least include views from all the other galleries still thriving on Vyner Street – Degree Art, Hada Contemporary, Cultivate, Dialogue, Press Play House, Wayward, Flying Egg etc.????
