The Two Eagles was remembered by generations of drinkers as a welcoming and lively local. From the 1960s onwards, evenings around the piano were a highlight, with regular players encouraging the whole pub to join in the singalongs. Architecturally, the building was distinctive, its rooftop eagles marking it out as a landmark on Austral Street, just over the border into Southwark. Despite such acclaim, the pub closed in the late 1990s and was later converted into private apartments, renamed Two Eagles House.
