A major crime scene was put in place at Downham Way today (September 23) at 1.31pm following reports of an attempted assault. A teenage boy said a man threatened to assault him and officers flooded the area. It is understood that some schools near the cordon had taken action to secure children inside and keep them safe as a precaution while police were outside. Eyewitnesses have told the News Shopper that “loud bangs” could be heard as officers tried to force entry into a property. The cordon was in place for over three hours, but it has since been lifted.
