In an interview released on Wednesday, Dr. Khaled Al-Qaddoumi accused Israel of genocide and undermining peace efforts. Al-Qaddoumi praised Qatar, which has played a central mediating role between Hamas and Israel since the Gaza war began, as well as Egypt, but said Israel had sabotaged the talks. According to Al-Qaddoumi, Hamas had accepted proposals and was prepared for a full prisoner swap, but negotiations collapsed due to Israeli actions. Israel launched its military operation in 2023 in response to the Hamas attack that killed about 1,200 people and saw more than 250 taken hostage. Over 65,000 Palestinians have since been killed in Gaza, according to local health authorities.
