SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Tuesday, September 23, is the last day of business for the Heavenly Village Cinema in South Lake Tahoe. This was the last movie theater in the community, and the theater, once a cornerstone of Heavenly Village since the beginning, had operated in that location for two decades. “Operating the Heavenly Village Cinema has been one of the greatest joys of our lives,” said the Harrahs. Going back more years, there was a Quonset hut theater located about where the Heavenly Cinema is, as well as other theater locations. The closest theaters showing current movies are the Galaxy Theaters in Carson City, the Carson Valley Cinemas 8 in Minden, the Incline Village Cinema and the Tahoe City Art Haus.
