Hawke plays Lee Raybon, a freewheeling independent journalist with a penchant for digging up serious dirt on some of Tulsa's most prominent families. "It's a touchstone," Hawke tells Gold Derby about playing his version of a Lebowski character, while also point to the other influences at play in The Lowdown. Asked how he literally learned to roll with all the punches he takes during the course of The Lowdown, Hawke says it comes with the (non-existent) badge. When he's not getting beaten up, Hawke also finds a way to slip little pop culture Easter eggs into The Lowdown. "That's classic Ethan Hawke, not asking permission," MacLachlan jokes about having the Cooper name co-opted.
