Following a highways advisory committee meeting on Monday, September 1, Warminster Town Council has announced early stages of exploring a 20mph limit for the town centre. The town council has recommended to the local highway and footway improvement group (LHFIG) to consider a 20mph speed limit on Emwell Street, George Street, Silver Street and Sambourne Road (to the current 20mph zone) plus Market Place. The cost of implementing is estimate at £12,250 and the town council would have to contribute at least 25%. Some appeared to suggest they had little material point given the volume and slow pace of traffic through the town. Warminster Town Council has said it previously identified the problem to Wiltshire Council after members of the public and councillors raised concerns which included access for emergency services during busy times in the park and town centre as well as traffic congestion.
