The applicant sought to make repairs to the formerly grand stables at Tottenham House, near Marlborough. Dating from the 1820s Tottenham House was, until 2014, the ancestral seat of the Earl of Cardigan. Tottenham House was largely unoccupied from 2006 although the band Radiohead recorded their album In Rainbows there, and it featured as a run-down country pile in the TV series Downton Abbey in 2015. The 100-room mansion in the 4,500-acre Savernake Estate had been in the family for nearly 200 years when it was sold. The renovation plan to turn the house back into a single family home was approved in 2018.
