Thank you for writing this. My son is adhd, autistic, ODD and we are heading into 2nd grade this year. I felt you were talking about my child. It sounds so similar. We are fighting the school to hold him back in 1st grade this year. They say things like, studies show… it wouldn’t be a good idea. But I’m like. Studies don’t know my kid! Studies don’t know our specific situation. These studies are for the average child. Not my child who has learning problems. Who somehow tests really well but can’t read and write. I want him to grow up to be a functioning adult. Not having to play catch-up every year with his IEP allowing for that. We just moved so the kids won’t even know either. But I still get a solid no, from the school. It’s so frustrating that they won’t listen. Again, I’m so glad you got what you fought for.
