A thought-provoking article, thank you Mr. Baburek. Something to additionally consider: Mississippi Mills has been recognizing long-standing businesses and business-families working within our municipality (including agri-biz / farms) for 3 years now with the annual long-term business recognition event, each October.
These businesses have received recognition after 25, 35, 50 and 65+ years in business, within our municipality! Imagine the economic and social contributions these families and businesses have made! The Municipality has recognized over 60 businesses in the past 3 years and has many more to go.
Cavanagh Construction has also contributed to our municipality (a couple of examples: offering employment opportunities and sponsoring/erecting the stage at Augusts Park summer concerts in Almonte - thank you!) Meanwhile, only in the last couple of years has Cavanagh owned and operated a business in Mississippi Mills (Enerdu in Almonte). For this reason, I think it was premature and perhaps even unfair that Mississippi Mills Council voted to recognize only the Cavanagh business in this very unique way. As Mr. Baburek has written, many, many businesses deserve appreciation, respect and recognition in our town and have contributed in incredible ways for many, many years. A huge diversity of business people and families have invested in our municipality over the years, building our community in that way as well.
