Hi Jacques, I enjoyed this respectful tribute to Roger. Their stories deserve to be told and their memories kept alive, but sadly, interest in this war seems to be dying along with the generation who lived through it. I was surprised to come across this beautifully written story about your Dad while doing research for a website I created about Valerie's (my wife's) father. https://sites.google.com/site/wardiaryofroberttoomey/ Roger spoke very briefly about his war experiences with me while playing snooker in AYlmer and I remembered that he was with the Tank regiment. Valerie's father was a navigator on a Lancaster Bomber that was shot down while returning from a raid over Germany. He was the only survivor of a crew of seven when the aircraft crashed into the sea off Denmark. He was captured and became a prisoner of war. In January, 1945 he was one of thousands of POWs who were force marched hundreds of kilometers towards Berlin as the Russians were advancing. I have fond memories of playing cards with Roger and Lillian, cross-country skiing, bowling and playing snooker with your Dad in Aylmer. Hope all is well with you and the family. Claude Lafleur
