It reminded the public that killing, butchering, possession, and trade of marine turtles are punishable under Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act. “Protecting pawikan is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” the group added. One Pawikan Initiative also warned that eating pawikan meat poses health risks.
