This photograph shows Mamie Alexander Boyd, (1876-1973), newspaper editor and publisher from Phillipsburg, Kansas. Her husband, Frank Boyd, whom she meet when they were students at Kansas State Agricultural College, now known as Kansas State University, owned and operated the Phillips County Review and the Jewell County Record. Mamie an accomplished journalist served on a number of organizations including honorary life president for both the Kansas Press Women and the Kansas Press Association, and a charter member of the National Federation of Press Women. Her honors also included Newspaper Woman of the Year in 1954, the first recipient of the National Newspaper Association's McKinney Award in 1966; and the first woman to receive the William Allen White Award for Journalistic Merit in 1967. In 1972, her autobiography, "Rode a Heifer Calf through College," was published. Mamie Alexander Boyd, passed away on October 15, 1973 at the age of ninety-six.
