A new report indicates that training and supports targeting disadvantaged groups are needed to tackle Ireland’s growing skills gap. However, the country is also facing a significant tech skills gap that has the potential to hinder the development of Ireland’s technology industry. Evidenced by 83pc of employers who report significant difficulties in sourcing skilled professionals to take on tech roles. Generation Ireland and McKinsey & Company recently published the Bridging Ireland’s Tech Skills Gap Through Social Mobility report, which explores how, despite the success of Government initiatives in delivering upskilling and training programmes, there are still “pockets of society where barriers to entry persist”. Ronan Harbison, the executive director of Generation Ireland, said: “This report makes it clear: Ireland has the opportunity and responsibility to tackle its tech skills gap not just through innovation, but through inclusion.
