The open letter warns of AI escalating widespread disinformation and mass unemployment. The signatories include Geoffrey Hinton, also known as the ‘Godfather of AI’, former president of Ireland Mary Robinson and Wojciech Zaremba, one of OpenAI’s co-founders. The AI boom’s most well known face, Sam Altman, however, did not sign the letter. “AI holds immense potential to advance human wellbeing, yet its current trajectory presents unprecedented dangers,” the letter reads. It warns of AI technology escalating the risks of engineered pandemics, widespread disinformation, mass unemployment and systematic human rights violations.
