The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has launched an inquiry into Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) over the physical security of children’s health records in a CHI facility at Tallaght University Hospital (TUH). Following a review of the documents, the data watchdog conducted an unannounced site inspection at TUH on 16 July. Responding to a query from SiliconRepublic.com, CHI said, “The Data Protection Commission has commenced an investigation into matters relating to patient records at CHI at Tallaght. The DPC is the national independent authority that oversees the data security of citizens. The Department of Health recorded nearly 75 data breach incidents since 2018, with a few instances of data theft and a cyberattack.
