Penske, the owner of leading entertainment publications including Rolling Stone, Billboard and Variety, has filed a lawsuit against Google and its parent Alphabet over AI Overviews.
“As a leading global publisher, we have a duty to protect PMC’s [Penske Media Corporation] best-in-class journalists and award-winning journalism as a source of truth,” commented Penske Media CEO Jay Penske in a statement.
Google’s AI Overviews have been criticised ever since its launch last year.
Earlier this year, Reuters reported that a group of independent publishers filed an antitrust complaint with the European Commission against Google for its AI Overviews.
While popular edtech Chegg accused Google of harming its business by displaying its proprietary content on AI Overviews, essentially blocking traffic to Chegg’s website.
