The massive investments were announced as US president Donald Trump makes a state visit to the UK this week. The biggest slice of investments comes from Microsoft, which has pledged $30bn to support the UK’s AI infrastructure for three years. UK prime minister Keir Starmer called Microsoft’s investment a “powerful vote of confidence in UK’s leadership in AI”. “Stargate UK builds on this foundation to help accelerate scientific breakthroughs, improve productivity, and drive economic growth. Meanwhile, Nvidia, in partnership with CoreWeave, Nscale and Microsoft, announced new AI factories worth $15bn.
