Sydney Airport (SYD) has revealed plans for its biggest terminal expansion since the 2000 Olympics were held in the city 25 years ago, setting out a vision to build up to 14 new gates for airlines.
On September 15, 2025, Sydney Airport released a statement outlining a preliminary draft of its Master Plan 2045.
This new initiative will add up to 12 international gates, alongside two additional gates at the T1 International Terminal.
Preparing for 72M passengersBy 2045, Sydney Airport anticipates hosting more than 72 million passengers annually, accounting for 79% of the total projected traffic for major airports in Sydney.
The share of international passengers at Sydney Airport is likely to increase from just under 40% to 50.4% by 2045.
