Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has received its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft from an order of 200 Boeing jets worth US$32 billion, making it the airline’s first non-Airbus aircraft in its fleet. “The first Boeing aircraft received under this historic order is the result of nearly a decade of partnership between Boeing and Vietjet,” Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet said during the event. Additionally, the airline emphasized that it marks a “major milestone” in the growing partnership between Vietjet and Boeing. “On behalf of the Boeing team, we are honored to join Vietjet in celebrating the airline’s first Boeing airplane,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. In February 2019, Vietjet changed its fleet strategy, initially planning for an all-Airbus fleet before switching back to orders from Boeing.
