The Peacock, a 1950s luxury pub on the south side of Broad Street in Reading, opened under the management of Mr L.E. It replaced an older pub of the same name on the north side of Broad Street, which was demolished to build a Woolworths superstore. Murray Leese posted a photograph of the old pub to the Facebook group Reading and Thames Valley Memories of Another Day, which in turn gathered a huge response from the public. Another person said, "London boy Jimmy Pickering ran the pub at one stage, remember he got glassed once, later ran the Sheps pub. A third person commented, "There was a Peacock pub there before this refit, and it was built.
