Excellent piece. You capture the obsessive mindset phenomenally: discovery-->disenchantment. When I read "[m]ost weren't bagged and boarded" I had a Jason Lee/Brody moment from Mallrats (holding up a stack of loose floppies in the flea market--"savages!"), but I recently made the decision to stop doing this, as well; I even took all my old issues out of the bags. It was such a weird moment for me as I have obsessively performed this practice for years and now it just doesn't make any sense. I'm wondering if this is based on moving into a reader rather than a "collector/investor" mindset? or the realization that none of this stuff is really going to be worth anything in a few decades? It's probably healthier... :-) Enjoy the memories!
