I've been a fan of Ted's since the first issue of TRANSIT. That book's editor, Lou Stathis, a good friend and a hell of a guy, sent it to me knowing I would dig it. I did. Lou had an amazing eye for comic art and, especially, for esoteric stories and attitudes. (His gods were PKDick and Hunter Thompson.) He was right, of course, Ted was a new and vibrant voice and I started following his work and continued through many of his projects that followed. He is/was a unique talent. The problem, or one of them, was that he was spoiled by having an editor like Lou, who understood that pushing the envelope in comics is the only thing that can push them into the future. Sadly, Cancer took Lou in his mid-forties and with him went his amazing understanding of what it takes to be a one of a kind creator. Without a visionary editor like that, this visionary artist got lost in the shuffle of people with less vision and understanding. (Archie Goodwin died the same year as Lou, from the Big C, as well.) I think he has every reason to be angry and bitter. Comics, in my opinion, need talent like McKeever's to evolve and, if I may say so, show the kids how it can be done if you're willing to put yourself out there and try to break new ground. He will be missed.
