Derby City Council has announced that it will begin to remove flags from public spaces and street furniture from Monday, September 29. "I think some people may just put the flags back up, I doubt this is the end of it. Other residents welcomed the decision to remove the flags, saying the "special treatment" from the council had to come to an end. Opposition councillors voiced their concerns about the council's decision, with Reform Derby group leader on the city council Tim Prosser saying the flag-flying was done as a "token of national pride and frustration about our Government". He said: "Unfortunately, I don’t think the Labour-led city council understand that by removing the flags they will increase this frustration.
