Thirty-seven years have passed since the brutal assassination of Vijaya Kumaratunga but the handsome filmstar-politico remains evergreen in the collective memory of his numerous fans and followers. It was in 1975 that I saw Vijaya Kumaratunga in the flesh for the first time. Wijepala Mendis who was the Katana sitting MP defeated Vijaya Kumaratunga by a majority of 4212 votes. In later years I got a few opportunities to meet and converse with Vijaya Kumaratunga.
